Sausage Peppers and Onions Pasta Casserole #SundaySupper

  • 1 pound ziti
  • ½ pound turkey sausage, casing removed (Italian Pork Sausage can also be used)
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup pepper cut into strips
  • ⅓ cup sliced red onion
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • additional butter to butter the casserole dish
  1. Preheat oven to 350ยบ
  2. Prepare pasta according to pasta directions.
  3. In a large skillet, brown the turkey sausage.
  4. Remove from pan and drain off fat.
  5. Melt butter and cook peppers and onions until tender but not brown.
  6. Stir flour into the pepper and onion mixture and slowly stir in the milk.
  7. Cook over low heat while stirring constantly, over medium-low heat until well blended.
  8. Stir the cheddar cheese, parmesan cheese and salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Stir cooked ziti and sausage into the cheesy mixture.
  10. Pour into a buttered casserole dish.
  11. Bake uncovered for approximately 30 minutes or until cheese is bubbly.
