Nurtured by a Love for Food Around the Family Table

Life Experiences may change us, but it starts and ends with Family…

Most of you will recall I started my blog the day after my oldest left for college.  Although we have had 18 years to prepare for this day, I don’t think that any Mother is ever truly prepared for the day they drop their child off at College.

I can still read my very First Post and get the chills.  The day your child leaves for college is a day of such mixed emotions.  I was so happy for my daughter because she was accepted into the college of her choice.  As my overachiever, she had worked hard for her acceptance.  In many ways, Alexandra, inspires me .  She is always my biggest cheerleader, adviser, menu planner, recipe tester, wardrobe consultant, and best friend.  The real question here was not how was she going to survive without me….How was I going to survive without her?

Last week, as we were setting the  table for Sunday Supper, I received a text from Alexandra.  It was a picture of the Sunday Supper Alex and her friend Leigh had prepared.  Chicken, Rice, Chick Pea Salad and Cupcakes for Dessert.  Pretty impressive meal for college students living in a dorm.

Their Chick Pea Salad is out of this world!  Once again, my daughter had inspired me. Not only by her recipes, but to continue to inspire my children to spend time Around the Family Table.  The Family Table can be anywhere…. as long as the main ingredient is Love!

Kid Ratings: Alex 10, Ronnie 8.5, Reis 9.5, Riley 0 (Riley doesn’t like chick peas, onions, peppers or mushrooms) Gotta work on him! Guest Ratings: Leigh 10

Isabel — this is so great that your daughter is continuing in your love for food and family meal times! I’ll have to give the chick pea salad a try — love them anyway you make them! {Beautiful girls -btw!}

My son will be a senior in high school next year. I’m already feeling sad.the time went so fast and this is really why I cherish Sunday Supper where everyone is home and relaxing and there is cooking and eating going on. It’s my absolute favorite way to spend the day!

That salad looks soooo good. And Alexandra is beautiful, she looks just like you. There is no doubt, I was NOT eating like that back in college – quite the impressive meal I must say!!

Thank you Nicole! She is much prettier than me but you are so sweet! I did not eat like her either when I was in college… she is a really healthy eater!
